Hi! Your reflection is well structured and easy to follow. It is interesting to
know that you read Kant’s work in both German and English version, which makes
me curious if there are significant differences in two languages with your
understanding. Besides, you made a good point of view on God’s point of view.
As you said, this metaphor does help us explain and understand our ‘limited’
knowledge, since ‘untainted observations’ are impossible to achieve. I think
this will also lead us to think about ‘subjectivity’ and ‘objectivity’ for our
future studies. Thanks for sharing your inspiring thoughts. Good job!

Hi Chenchen!
Your
interesting reflection show us a picture of your study journey for theme 1. It
is good to know that you changed your mind of philosophy through this course,
as well as received some valuable concepts or ideas for your future studies. In
your reflection, I particular like the quotes "perception without
conception is blind, conception without perception is empty". Same as you,
I also find this sentence very important to our understanding and future
research. I think the meaning is quite similar to another famous quote from
Confucius that ‘To learn without thinking is blindness, to think without
learning is idleness.’

Hi! Your reflection is really very interesting! I like what you did to prepare
and conclude the theme topic. Same as you, I also looked into transcendental
idealism, so it would be great if you share more thoughts on what you think of
it. Your example discussion on ‘our world’ is great, and I agree with your
opinion. As we only have limited cognition and unable to get the god’s point of
view, it seems doomed that ‘our world is always or only can be our world’.
Sometimes our thinking and understanding is very personal based, even we think
we could share and understand each other from time to time. However, this also
reminds me of a quote from other’s blog and I would like to share with you that
“Our world is a shared experience Fractured by individual perspectives.”

Hi Oscar!
I
like the way you structured your reflections. Instead of just summarizing the
important concepts from class or book, it can be observed that you also try to
make connection between these abstract theories or concepts with our studied
subject and research. This is a very good habit for thinking and studying. I
also agree with Kant on his idea of the God’s point of view, as well your
further thoughts on objectivity issue in research. Moreover, your additional
reading materials are very useful and helpful to get a better understanding of
the theme. It is good to know that ‘a priori is one definition of deductive
reasoning were you have a theory and applies it on a hypothesis and then makes
an observation. A posterior on the other hand could be a definition of
inductive reasoning were you makes an observation or in other ways gather data,
and then finds out if it works in theory, because it is a way of empirical
knowledge.’ Thanks so much for your efforts and sharing. Very good job!

Hi Paul!
I
agree with you that philosophical concepts are often complex and confusing, but
your well-structured reflections help me a lot to improve my understanding of
the key concepts for this theme. Thank you for your insightful thoughts and
sharing. In particular for your wonderful reflection on the comparison of ‘a
priori’ and ‘a posteriori’. The key points you made are very helpful to me that
‘a priori also known as analytic judgement and a posteriori also known as
Synthetic judgment’, and ‘if you through deductive reasoning or method can get
a priori and if you can through inductive reasoning or method can get a
posteriori’. Both of them make sense to help further understanding. In
addition, I am grateful you present your opinion on ‘objective knowledge’. Since
we all agreed on pure knowledge is only available from God’s point of view, I
was wondering then how to clarify our objectivity when doing research properly?
Your logical thoughts provide a good answer to me. Thank you for sharing. Well
done!

Hi,
Thanks
for sharing your reflections and experience. They are very interesting and
helpful. I have a similar journey with you for the reading and understanding,
while your explanation about 'priori knowledge' is much clearer that "they
are something we do not know that we know". It is much easier to
understand and discuss with others. Well done!

Hi!
I
can’t agree with you more that philosophy is not an easy subject, but I think
you made a great summary on the key concepts for this theme. Such as ‘A Priori
is an analytic judgment of things in the world without looking into the world’,
and ‘Knowledge should be critical investigated through methodological process’
as well as you suggested that we should climb down from the objective view of
the world, and structure our experiences through category and forms of space
and time. Further, the discussion from your group is also very interesting and
tightly related to the theme. Similar questions popped in my head too when I
studied the 12 categories. Personally I think the 12 categories here are quite
basic but its function is more important for its value. In my opinion, I will
leave the question quite open and assume there would be other ones, but this
kind of assumption is very hard to prove. Anyway, good job on your reflection.
Thanks for sharing your insightful thoughts!

Hi Denise, I agree a lot with others about your blogs. Your reflections are
very clear and show us your study journey with theme 1. In particular, I like
your discussions on the concept of “God’s point of view”. I think it is also a
good way to help understanding 'priori knowledge'. Thanks for your sharing.
It's very helpful to me.

Hi Jing!
It
is an interesting question proposed in your group discussion that ‘what is the
meaning of synthetic a priori judgement?’ However, I don’t really get what you
mean by "a priori means naturalism such as mathematic formulas" in
your reflection. I guess it is not a wrong statement, but it would be better if
you could illustrate ‘priori’ in a bigger picture, or give more evidence to
support your opinion. Still, it is a very good and inspiring thinking to try
define the term ‘priori’. Thanks for your sharing. Good job on your reflection
and keep it up!

Well done on your reflections! You make a good explanation on the ‘word in
itself’ and ‘God’s point of view’. I have no doubt with your opinion, but I am
curious to know with this perspective how will you think the objectivity issue
in research, which might be a practical question for our future research.
In addition, I share same thinking with you on the 12 categories from Kant. I
agree with you that they are quite basic, and your conclusion is a good entry
point to think them from today’s perspective that ‘These categories are a
priori, in relation to what they make possible.’

A
good reflection starts with an interesting and inspiring quote. “Our world
is a shared experience Fractured by individual perspectives.” I like the
sentence and thanks for your sharing. In your reflection, I found the three
issues you pointed out are very useful and helpful for us to understand the
theme, which are open-ended philosophical discussions, no ultimate universal
‘truth’, and we see the world though perception. It is important to keep them
in mind. In addition, I agree with you that ‘Kant was not right all the
time’. In fact, I think no one was always right, or maybe there is no
right can be always right. (This sounds a little bit silly, but I hope you get
what I mean.) Similar to lacking of the god’s point of view, I think knowledge
shares same limit just as us. That may be another reason for why a priori and a
posteriori knowledge exists. But again you make good argument that ‘no
knowledge can exist independent of previous knowledge’ and “Knowledge requires
knowledge.” This is definitely a logical thinking and makes a great
connection with previous discussions. Thanks for your interesting share. Well
done!

Hi Denise. Your reflections on theme 2 is clear and easy to follow. I enjoy
reading your blogs and agree a lot with your words. It is true that some terms
are quite hard to understand by oneself, so your share is very helpful to me.
In particular for your discussion on the term Nominalism that everything is
unique. Also, I like that you are making example to help understanding, such as
Apple and Fascism. They help a lot for better understanding. Good job! Look
forward to your future posts.

Very impressive on your blog. Your reflection is so well organized and

on your reflection. I enjoy reading your writing a lot. And your reflection

Hi, well written reflection on theme 2. I like the way you summarize and
organize, particularly for all the underlines you make to highlight the key
concepts. This makes your reflection easier to follow and understand. On the
other hand, it is good to know that you discussed the relationship between mass
media and enlightenment and Adorno and Horkeimer’s view. It is very interesting
as well as inspiring to make connection between the abstract terms and our main
topic. Thanks for your sharing. Well done!

Thanks for your posts as well as your comments. I enjoy reading your reflection
and find your discussion on "aura" very interesting. You mentioned
that 'The definition of aura is equal with unique.' It is very interesting
explanation. I partly agree with you that "aura for art objects is only
existed in its original version, reproduction cannot be the same as original
one because of lacking one unique element." It is a good way to help
understanding aura with unique, but i think aura cannot be entirely equal with
unique. Maybe it is the aura makes it unique. What do you think? Again, nice
job on your reflection!

Hi Chenchen,
I think you have learned a lot from theme 2 as you summarized all the key
concepts of the theme. It is interesting to approach 'Nominalism' compared with
'Realism'. It is a very good way to study the abstract concept. Also, your
reflection is interesting to me and help enhance my understanding of
Nominalism. However, I don't think Nominalism is 'negative'. Maybe we can just
see it as a metaphysical view in philosophy. Anyway, good job on summary!
Thanks for your sharing.

Hi
Agri!
Very
impressive reflection! Instead of just making a summary for the theme topic, I
think you actually presents your study journey in your reflection. Very
interesting and inspiring. I particularly like the discussions you make on the
analogy of the cave. Thanks to your detailed explanation, I feel easy to follow
your guide and to think more about the topic. It is such a pity that I could
not have the chance to discuss this interesting topic with you in person. I am
now looking forward to hearing more from you in our future studies. Good job!

Hi Paul!
Such a fruitful reflection. You did a wonderful job on leading the readers
follow your discovery journey. The history is so well organized and makes
perfect sense to our theme. Not to mention the other two example you mentioned
are also useful and helpful for a better understanding these key concepts. I
particular like the discussions you made on German Fascism and American
Consumerism. They are very interesting topics. And the further question you
proposed is another good example to make a link between these fancy and
abstract terms with our studied subject media technology. It is a very good try
to think 'How dangerous can media technology be if it comes in the wrong hands,
for exempla Nazi Germen.' especially considering our current evolving media
landscape. Very impressive on your insightful thoughts. Good job! Thanks for
sharing.

So nice and professional reflection! This post illustrates your well
understanding of this theme, which has been widely discussed with details. Both
the Italics and underlines are great and helpful to follow your ideas. I like
your blog and agree with you very much. It is very good to know that
investigating something within its born context though the cultural and
historical lens.a more completed picture and a more reasonable sense can be
achieved. This is a very good way to approach and understand some critical
theories with a history. As paradigm shifts, our understanding could be
developed as well. However, putting our feet into the right shoes can always
help us get a better understanding of what it really is. Thanks for sharing
your insightful and interesting reflections. Well done!
9. http://securepathofscience.blogspot.se/2015/09/theme-2-critical-media-studies.html?showComment=1445818734474#c7724133631135646216
What an impressive reflection you make to entail the key concepts for this
term. It is nice to see that you not only mention that 'it is essential to know
what background the authors have to be able to fully grasp the meaning of their
words' but also you did introduce lots of the background information for each
scholar to lead us find the answers. Nice try! In addition, I also like the
connection you made between the theories with our subject. I think the
questions you proposed such as 'how media technology can be misused?' and the
examples you discussed on superstructure and substructure are still interesting
topics today. Regarding the new technology developing recently, e.g. 3D or 4D
movies, will the media technology again change the way we see or perceive
things? Thanks for sharing your insightful thoughts. I enjoy reading your post
a lot. Well done!

I
agree with you that historical background of the authors did explain a lot of
things for the texts. It is interesting to link the art with mass as well as
money. I think in many case research questions can be formulated accordingly
from this perspective. Also, your seminar discussion on ‘aura’ is very
inspiring and different. It is a good entry point to think why Benjamin made
his point of view on ‘aura’. I think this may result in the reproduction. When
he discovered the media reproduction phenomenon, it would be a reasonable
thinking to find out what is changed. In my opinion, ‘aura’ is a useful term to
explain the difference between the original one and the copies. However, I am
wondering how to properly define the ‘aura’ with current movie or media industries?

Hi
Isabella, it is an enjoyable experience for reading your reflections. It's very
clear and easy to understand as well as follow your idea. Thanks for saying
about your thinking about the question 'what is man?'. I have exactly the same

lot on your reflections. Good job!

Hi,Rebecka!
I
find your reflections very interesting and inspiring! When I studies theme 3, I
also found that 'theory is not always true, or not needed to be true.' After
reading your writing, I think you did a better job on this perspective. As you
said, 'We examine relationships and come up with explanations, and We make
theories on assumptions we find credible.' and yes, ' we can’t know for sure
that theory is true so no not really. ' It is great that you share your
valuable opinions here and I have the chance to read them. Thank you for your

Hi
Denise,
I
always like reading your blog, since it is always well-written and neatly
organized. In this week's reflection, it is good to see that you share your
thoughts on theory and hypothesis. This comparison is very helpful to
understand the concept. Also I notice that you reached a conclusion about
scientic and philosophical theory as 'scientific theory is based on empirical
data while philosophical theory is based on an idea'. It is easy to understand
what you mean in this sentence, but how about the scientific theory developed from
humanities? Is it possible that some of them may also come from an idea? In
addition to that, I particular like your another conclusion that 'truth is
relative'. I agree a lot with you on this. Thanks for sharing and good job!

Hi,
Thanks
for sharing your thoughts in your blog. I like your discussion on the theory
with relation to the two fields: humanities and sciences. I agree with you that
theory indicates quite different thins between these two fields. In addition, I
also agree with your partner about the data objectivity. I think it is a good
argument that 'the data we use in the research is filtered more or less'. And
your opinion of 'theory might be framed in certain context' is great too. You
guys did a great work on thinking the theory and research. Well done!

Hi,
I enjoy reading your blog. It is a well-written and neatly-organized
reflection. You did a great job on summarizing all the key points of theme 4
and also interesting reflections on your study experience. I also liked your
example with Big Bang, and your explanation on theory and hypothesis.
Additionally, I think theory helps to test the hypothesis. Moreover, I totally
agree with your group conclusion about the pre-seminar assignment. Thanks for
sharing and posting it. I feel like I have learned a lot from your writing.
Good job and keep it up!

Hi
Celine,
Your
writing is so well organized and easy to follow, from beginning to the end.
More importantly, your insightful thoughts are very inspiring. Your make a very
clear point on our CHANGING WORLD where paradigm shifts with the relation to
the theory developing. And your thinking for the truth is very impressive. With
the help of mentioning "God's Point of View", I agree with you that
it would be better to say 'a theory is commonly accepted', avoiding the 'truth'
issue. You are very smart! Lastly, it is very helpful to discuss the Theory
with Hypothesis. With a better understanding of Hypothesis, our understanding
of Theory is improved accordingly. Your final conclusion that 'Theory has to
explain the relationship between entities, to answer the question of why this
phenomenon occurs within a specific framework' is great too. Thanks for your
sharing! Well done!!!!

Hi
Oscar! Your writing entails all the important terms with some highlighted for
theme 3. Very good job on summary and reflection. It is interesting to approach
what theory is with relation to 'practice' and hypothesis. And it is good to
know the different kinds of theories, such as the example you made on
philosophical theories, it is a very good argument. Also, I agree with you that
truth is quite relative, and we as researchers might be wise to use it
properly. Thanks for posting it out. I will remember that too. Thank you for
your sharing. Good job!

Hi
Paul!
Nice
reflection! Firstly, your selected paper is quite interesting, and I am very
interested in the topic. (Thanks for sharing the link underneath, very
thoughtful) Secondly, you really did a good job on reflecting the theme topic.
Your explanation of theory is very clear and very useful to help understand the
concept better. With the help of the quoting“A theory is an abstract entity that
aims to describe, explain, and enhance understanding of the world…”, I
particular like your conclusion that 'a theory tries to, and should, explain
why, how and under what conditions events, structure, act, etc appears and how
phenomena are connecting to each other. ' Thanks for sharing your insightful
thoughts. Well done!

Hi
Chenchen, although you said repeatly that you are getting more confused, you
still successfully draw some clear conclusion and show a good understanding of
the theme. It is a smart departure point to think what theory is with
comparison to practice. I agree with you that ' theory is not about doing
something, practice is.' Additionally, you make good example on different types
of research, such as artistic research and applied research. It is exactly what
I learned from the lecture too. For the 'truth' issue, I think it is quite
tricky, and you make a good point on that. Very good job on your reflection!
Thanks for your sharing.

Hi,
I agree with you that this theme is not easy to follow as the key concepts are
quite abstract. It is good to see you share your study journey in a quite
detailed way, which is easy to follow and understand. Basically I have a
similar journey with you on this theme. Our group also discussed the difference
between 'theory' and 'hypothesis', and our conclusion is that 'Hypothesis
states a relationship between two or more, while theory often tries to provide
an explanation to the hypothesis.' which is quite related to your conclusion
that ' theory is based on facts and a hypothesis can be seen as a sort of
pre-stage of a theory and an attempt to explain phenomena.' Thanks for sharing.
Good job!

Hi!
As
usual I like your neatly organized reflections. Your thoughts are easy to
follow and I have to admit again that I agree with you a lot. The theme topic
this week is not that hard to follow but quite straight forward as you said.
Your summary of quantitative research is great as well as your discussion on
qualitative analysis. What I want to add is that it could also be good to
discuss some on the mixed research method. I am quite looking forward to your
opinion on that topic. Thanks for sharing your writing. Well done!

Hi,
Another
enjoyable experience to read your blog. Your summary is very good and
organized, in particular for the two aspects you highlighted. Since we share
similar situation for this course, I also find it interesting to discuss the

Hi

Your
reflection to the theme 4 is really great. I have learned a lot from your
summary in particular for your discussion on questionnaire design, piloting,
and reliability issue. As I just finish creating a questionnaire and collecting
data for the survey, I can't agree with you more from multiple perspectives.
Your insightful thinking is very inspiring. I am pretty sure that you will do a
great job if you conduct a survey or other quantitative research in the future.
Well done! Thanks for sharing your ideas.

Hi
Isabella,
I
enjoy reading your blog as well as discussing with you during the seminar. As
we talked IRL, I agree with you much on your analysis of quantitative and
qualitative research. One for general big data with numbers, the other helps to
discover further or deeper understanding. In addition, I appreciate your
thinking on the objectivity. It is very interesting and inspiring to rethink
the research from this perspective. Thanks for sharing your insightful
thoughts. I am looking forward to more discussion with you in future.

Hi,
Your
reflection is great and it is good to see your thinking from a particular
perspective other than the common popular ones. I could tell that you get
involved with the study progress with a lot of personal thinking. You make a
good argument on both quantitative and qualitative research. I agree with you
that there are many scenarios in which the two methods are needed at the same
time. Your examples are very useful and helpful to get a better understanding
of the two methods. Well done. Thanks for sharing.

Your
confession wins a lot support as we shared similar thoughts on that. Thank you
for speaking it out.
I
like the way you present your idea with examples as well as your example itself
is very interesting. I think in many cases neither quantitative nor qualitative
research alone is enough, but a combination is needed in fact. As you said,
quantitative and qualitative analysis is able to complete each other in a way.
This is a very insightful conclusion. Good Job!
Thanks
for sharing your insightful thoughts.

reflections are well written and neatly organized. Reading your idea is an
enjoyable experience. We also discussed on using the two methods at the same
time. I think this is more and more popular recently. Further, I agree with you
that to some degree both quantitative and qualitative research are 'bias',
although it claims quite often that quantitative research is more objective
while qualitative research is more subjective. However, I am doubtful if 'A
quantitative study often needs to be more planned out than a qualitative', but
I get your point that qualitative study may be more data-driven than
quantitative analysis. Good job! Thanks for sharing your ideas.

Hi,
Different
from others, you highlighted a good argument that 'preparations before
conducting quantitative research is vital'. This is a very good perspective to
the theme study, and I believe this will also be useful in practice. You are
quite right on the questionnaire discussion, and it is very interesting to see
that in your seminar you talked about How both qualitative and quantitative
research answer the question “Why?” Because in our seminar, we were thinking
that maybe qualitative research mainly answer the question 'why' while
quantitative research focuses more on 'what' or 'how'. As we thought the
problem from different departures, it would be interesting for us to have a
further discussion on that. Lastly, I agree with you again on the use of the
method combination. It is very practical and helpful for future studies. Thanks
for your sharing.

Hi,
Thanks
for your sharing. Your reflection is neatly written and easy to follow. You
make a good point on why different methods have been used in different
disciplines. We also discussed on this phenomenon but not on the possible
reason behind that. In addition, I agree with you that quantitative research is
very useful in preliminary research and its authenticity makes its result more
useful for further research.

Hi,
I
enjoy reading your reflection a lot. You made an excellent work on summary.
Your discussion on quantitative an qualitative research is so neatly organized
as well as accurate to the key point. I agree with you a lot on those. In
particular I appreciate that you pointed out that 'Qualitative methods are also
branching out into unknown territory'. It is very inspiring. Thanks to your
well-written blog, I think my understanding of this theme is further improved.
Thanks for sharing your insightful thoughts.

Hi!
It
is such a great experience to read your blog. You are so good at summary, and
your additional efforts are so impressive. I found your additional materials
very interesting and helpful to better understand the theme, in particular for
your final conclusion on prototype that ' prototype testing is crucial for
exploring limitations and making appropriate changes.' You did a great job on
your reflection! Thanks so much for sharing.

Hi
Denise,
Your
reflection is so well-organized and neatly-written as usual. I like your
summary and agree with you a lot. Besides the five main points for the first
lecture, I found your highlights for second lecture very interesting and worthy
to be noted. Although this theme might not be totally new to you as you said,
it is great that you pointed out again that 'the purpose of research is to find
an answer, solve a problem, test a theory and most importantly, to gain
knowledge.' and 'It is the analysis that turns something into research.' Thanks
for sharing. Well done!

Hi
Elvira,
I
enjoy reading your blogs, especially for your reflections on lecture and
seminar. I totally agree with you. I have the same feeling that more can be
studied from seminars than lectures. Also, I think reading others' reflections
are also helpful to the understanding.
Your
summary on the first lecture is great, and it would be better to see more
reflections for the second lecture if possible. Anyway, good job on your blog.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi
Paul,
Your
reflections are very interesting and well-written. I enjoy reading them. I
think you highlighted something different from most others, which is great. I
like your discussion on the design research and problem solving, and I agree
with your conclusion that 'it is the research problem that decides that
construction of the design research. ' Thanks for sharing your insightful
thoughts. And just like others, I am also curious on your thoughts on
prototype. It would be great if this part was also included in your reflection
on this week's theme. Anyway, very good job!

Hi!
I enjoy reading your blog a lot. It is so well-organized and neatly-presented.
I agree with you a lot that seminars are more useful and helpful for our
understanding compared to lectures. Besides that, I also think writing and
reading reflection also contribute to some extend. For this week's theme, I
think you have done a great job on summarizing the first lecture. All your
highlights are impressive and the most important aspects for the lecture. It is
a little pity that you did not reflect more on 'prototype', although the reason
is obvious. It would be good if we have chance to discuss more that too, like
you said. Anyway, thank you for sharing your insightful thoughts. Well done!

Hi,
Your
reflection is very interesting and easy to follow. I like your writing style
very much. You are so good at summarizing the key points for the first lecture
that it gave us 'the paths to follow and traps to avoid'. In addition, your
example of 'mother and daughter' as well as your own experience on programming
are also insightful and helpful to better understand the key point you argued.
What is a small pity here is that you did not say much on another key term
'prototype'. It would be great if you can also share your insightful ideas on
that too. Anyway, very good job on your reflection. Thanks for your sharing!

Hi!
Your
reflection is well-written and easy to follow. I enjoy reading it a lot. I
agree with you that for the first lecture, the teacher emphasized a lot on how
important on problem formulating, which definitely is but may be not that new
to us. What I found interesting in your blog is the discussion you made on
different uses of prototype. 'In research, a prototype is more about finding
answers, solving problems and to gain knowledge. In industry it’s to prove a
concept, to test an idea and to evaluate it.' For me it is a good argument
which I did not think too much before, but I agree with you that they are quite
different based on their different purposes. Thanks for pointing it out,and
sharing your insightful ideas. Good job!

Hi
Oscar,
Your
reflections are well-organized with several interesting aspects. It is good to
know your own experience with prototype, which is very interesting and helpful
to understand the term. Your summary for the first lecture is great, in
particular I like the highlights you make. In addition, I like your last
conclusion on prototype and design research, such as we aim to' develop
answers' as well as 'to create scenarios'. I agree with you a lot. Thanks for
sharing your insightful thoughts. Good job!

Hi
Corinna,
You
have done a great job on structuring and summarizing your reflection. Reading
your blog is an enjoyable experience. I agree with you on your key points
highlighted for the week theme, and also on the opinions on seminars. It is
true that we always learn a lot from each other during discussions. It is a
pity that we don't have this opportunity for this week. Still, I think reading
other's blogs also helps to improve my understanding. So thanks so much for
sharing your nice reflections. Good job!

Hi
Stina,
I
enjoy reading your blog since it is well organized and easy to follow. Besides
your good summary on the two lectures, I think you also made good arguments for
your own interests. I agree with you that math is not always that necessary but
it is always a useful tool. Also, it is good to know that there is another
class (DH2620 - Human Computer Interaction) helps to understanding prototype.
Thanks for sharing your experience, and it would be more grateful if you could
also share more your opinion on the term 'prototype'. When I read this part in
your blog, I just feel again that it is such a pity that we don't have a seminar
for this week theme. Otherwise, it would be great to discuss more with you on
your insightful understanding and interesting experience.

Hi
Agri,
Enjoy
reading your blog as well as discussing with you during the seminar. You are
good at summarizing and your reflection is so well-structured. I am grateful
that you pointed out all the key findings, which reminded me some I forgot to
write in my blog. In particular, I like your last discussion on case study that
‘it is cyclical, and is is not necessary to be replicable’. I agree with you
that the seminar is very fruitful for our study, and your reflection helps me
again for better understanding the theme. Thank you for sharing your insightful
thoughts. Good job and looking forward to more discussions with you in the near
future.

Hi
Denise,
As
always your reflection is good to read and inspiring for new understanding of
the theme. I agree with you that we already had enough discussion on
qualitative research when studying quantitative research, so our small group
also discussed more on case study. For case study, I think your group did a
good job and your summary is very well. It is good to study case study with
relation to the hypothesis, and I like your highlight that the purpose of case
studies is to build a theory rather than test a theory. This is a very clear
conclusion to help understanding what the case study is. Also the last example
you mentioned is indeed useful to gain a feeling of what the real case study
is. Again, thanks for sharing your insightful thoughts. Well done!

Hi
Paul,
Nice
reflection. I agree with you that it is such a pity that the lecture was
cancelled, which would help us gain more knowledge and understanding for our
last theme. And yes, fortunately, we still have the seminar as well as the
blogs for discussion, which are very useful and helpful in my opinion. You did
a great job on summarizing the key points for the two main methods 'qualitative
method' and 'case study'. I agree with you a lot, but I am not sure on 'Case
study is one way to conduct a qualitative research'. since both quantitative
and qualitative research can be used in case study. Besides that, I share the
same feeling with you that more knowledge has been gained from this course,
which will definitely help us with our upcoming studies at KTH. Thanks for
sharing. It is a pleasure to reading your blog.

Hi
Elvira,
Nice
reflection. I agree with you that it is such a PITY for the lecture
cancellation, which could provide us useful information of the two methods and
improve our understanding. For the qualitative methods, you mentioned that both
interview and survey have been identified as qualitative methods in your group.
I am curious to know why you think it is qualitative instead of quantitative.
For the case studies, I think you have done a great job to summarize. The two
key words 'specific and different' identified by you are very useful to help
understanding. It is good to know that case studies concern a “specific
situation” and researchers find new theories by using it. Thanks so much for
your sharing. Good job!

Hi
Corinna,
Nice
reflection! You did a great job on summarizing all the important aspects we
learned about 'case studies'. They are clear structured and very useful to help
further understanding, since you did not only present the conclusions but also
provide explanations. For example, it is good to know that case study does not
start with a hypothesis because there is not enough data about the subject.
Together with the example you mentioned, it is a very coherent way to study and
understand the method. Thanks for your sharing your insightful thoughts. Good
luck to your final blog!

Hi
Celine,
Nice
reflection. I enjoy reading your blog as you do not only summarize key points
for the theme, but also share your study experience here. It is good to know
how you feel for the course, lecture, seminar, methods, as well as the way how
you think the question, discussion and the study. Personally I feel that this
course makes me become more interested in seminar than lecture. Discussing and
sharing ideas with others is an interesting and efficient way to study new
knowledge, especially for something we are unsure ourselves. In addition,
reading reflections also helps a lot for summarizing and further understanding.
Therefore thanks for sharing your insightful thoughts and I am looking forward
to more discussions with you in our future studies.

Hi
Chenchen,
Enjoy
reading your blog. I agree with you that without the planned lecture, we may
possibly feel not that confident about the theme as the previous ones did. But
I think you did a good job understanding the key concept 'case study'. In
particular, I like your summary that case study is more about investigating new
knowledge, and the case is individual, organisation, event, or action, existing
in a specific time and place. It is a very clear conclusion, that it helps a
lot for others to understand the concept quickly. Thanks for sharing your
interesting and thoughtful reflections. Good job!

Hi!
Your reflection is great. I think you did a very good job on summarizing the
key points of the theme concept ' case study'. Actually I feel that my
understanding of the term is much improved after reading your writing. The
highlights are very helpful, such as 'It does not start with a hypothesis',
'needs to have a specific time and place', and tend to be more specific in
details, as well as that 'combination of several methods are used to a research
subject you don't know too much in a case study'. What's more, it is an
interesting topic proposed by you on 'if a case study research can be done on
historical scenarios or events or if they need to be done on current cases.' In
my opinion, I agree with you conclusion that there are no obvious reasons to
say no, but it is also hard to think how to conduct a case study in a
historical scenario properly. Still, it is a good question. Hope we could find
out more in our future studies. Thanks for your sharing. Well done!

Hi
Marcus,
Nice
reflection! It is great to see that you share some interesting and valuable
things for qualitative methods. Most of us have been focused on 'case study',
so few reflections are observed from this perspective. But your sharing opens a
new window for us. I agree with your summary that qualitative research is often
used to 'something I had a firm grasp on, mostly used when you have a more open
study regarding a subject you want to dwell deeper into, with unforseen twists
and turns.' And same to me, there are a lot of methods in qualitative research
we are not that familiar with. I appreciate your explanation on “Auto driving”,
which is very new and interesting to me. Thank you for your sharing. On the
other side, you also made a great job on summarizing 'case study' that 'instead
of adopting the new knowledge they used ad hoc hypothesis, case study in general
is about an iterative process, providing a different perspective on how to
create theory.' Well done!
10. http://stinazwahlen.blogspot.se/2015/10/post-seminar-theme-6-qualitative-and.html?showComment=1445799935078#c7498462939890452620
Hi
Stina,
It's
good that you discuss both qualitative research and case study in your
reflection. I agree with you that subjectivity is definitely a quite common
'issue' for qualitative research, although it may be also unavoidable for other
research too. For the case study, your example of the brain injure study is a
very good one. It is quite easy to directly get what a case study mean as well
as when a case study is needed. Also, you make a good point on 'It's important
to also use a well-defined research question, and to explain in which context
and what method is used' for case study. Lastly, your final summary is great,
although there may be a small typo on 'quantitative'. Still, very good job!
Thanks for sharing with us.
